Effect of Neuro-Adaptive Electrostimulation Therapy versus Sham for Refractory Urge Urinary Incontinence Due to Overactive Bladder: A Randomized Single-Blinded Trial
To help you better understand incontinence, here is some basic information about your urinary system. The urinary system works with your brain and spinal cord to coordinate the functions of urination. Your kidneys filter blood and dispose of liquid waste products in the form of urine. Urine is carried out of the kidneys by the ureters and into the bladder, which is a muscle-lined bag that acts as a reservoir. Urine is stored in the bladder until the brain signals it to empty. Injury, weakening, or damage to the muscles that support the urethra can lead to stress urinary incontinence. This occurs when weak pelvic floor muscles, especially in the region of the opening of the bladder neck, cannot reflexively tighten during increased pressure on the bladder and urethra. This leads to involuntary loss of urine.
SCENAR-Therapy is performed using treatment techniques on the Zones of General Regulation (General Zones), projection and additional zones to restore the mechanisms of self-regulation during filling and emptying of the bladder and the normal functioning of the urinary system as a whole. The use of SCENAR-Therapy favorably affects the parameters of the autonomic nervous system.
As a result of SCENAR therapy:
- the act of urination is normalized, which is characterized by a decrease or disappearance of urinary incontinence, imperative urges and the restoration of urine excretion from the body (urodynamics);
- various symptoms of bladder dysfunction are subjected to regression, including the disappearance of enuresis (in children);
- cystalgia in patients with neurogenic bladder dysfunction is relieved;
- an activation of the body’s self-regulation processes, which leads to the stabilization of the patient’s emotional sphere, increased resistance to various psycho-traumatic situations are launched.
In case of prerenal anuria (post-stroke, cerebral coma) – SCENAR therapy turned out to be the only remedy that caused diuresis.
